Google has ended support for FAQ rich results in Search and removed the dedicated documentation. FAQPage markup no longer produces the expanded FAQ treatment that site owners once targeted. That does not mean businesses should remove useful FAQ content from their websites.
What changed?
Google stopped showing FAQ rich results on May 7, 2026 and removed the feature documentation in June. Google had already limited the feature heavily in 2023, so the 2026 change completes that phase-out.
Does this affect rankings?
Removing a rich result feature is not the same as changing organic ranking. Structured data can make pages eligible for supported search experiences, but a specific visual treatment is separate from ordinary web ranking.
Should FAQPage schema be removed?
If the markup exists only to win Google FAQ rich results, it no longer provides that benefit. Google has previously said unused structured data does not cause Search problems, but it also has no visible effect when the feature is unsupported. Teams can therefore remove or simplify it during normal technical cleanup, unless another system still uses it.
FAQ content is still useful
A good FAQ can reduce purchase friction by answering real questions about price, timing, contracts, support and process. It can also improve topical completeness when the questions genuinely belong on the page.
FAQ can still support GEO
Direct questions followed by concise, well-supported answers create clear information blocks. Google also states that no special schema is required for AI Overviews or AI Mode. Content quality and clarity matter more than FAQPage markup.
Do not misuse QAPage
Google still supports QAPage for pages with one question and multiple answers, such as forums. It is not a replacement for a standard business FAQ. Structured data must accurately describe what users can see on the page.
What should businesses do?
- Keep useful FAQ content.
- Use real customer questions instead of keyword filler.
- Clean up unnecessary markup when appropriate.
- Use supported structured data types only where they match the page.
- Optimize for helpful answers, not decorative SERP tricks.
FAQ remains valuable when it helps the customer. FAQ schema is no longer a priority merely for Google’s rich results.
