Google Content API for Shopping reached its official sunset date on August 18, 2026. Starting September 1, Google began progressively degrading integrations without an active extension, including intermittent HTTP 410 errors. Merchants still relying on the old API need to migrate to Merchant API.
Why does it matter?
Product feeds often run silently in the background. When an integration breaks, price, stock or product updates can stop before a marketing team notices.
What should merchants do?
- Identify how product data reaches Merchant Center.
- Check for failed syncs and HTTP 410 errors.
- Migrate to Merchant API or confirm that your platform provider already has.
- Verify price, stock, images, links and identifiers after migration.
- Monitor Merchant Center for new diagnostics.
SEO and visibility
This is not the same as a normal Search indexing issue, but ecommerce visibility depends on consistent data across product pages, Merchant Center, ads and organic surfaces. Fresh structured product information also matters increasingly in AI-driven discovery.
